The Mid-Atlantic Mennonite Fellowship was founded in 1978. It consisted of 13 congregations located in south central Pennsylvania (9), central Pennsylvania (2), northern Pennsylvania, (1), and southern New York (1). The fellowship was organized by a number of ordained brethren from various independent congregations and congregations affiliated with regional Mennonite Church (MC) conferences who felt the need for a broader church organization to give cohesion for missions, Christian education, and fellowship in the historic Anabaptist vein of life and practice.

In 1987 the fellowship consisted of 985 members with 6 bishops, 23 ministers, and 15 deacons providing leadership. There was a strong emphasis on Christian education for the youth. Mission emphasis, in addition to local evangelism by individual congregations, consisted of full-time prison ministry, a street and tract evangelism ministry, and support of foreign missions, with workers in Guatemala, Haiti, and Canada. In 2006 there were 19 congregations with 1,498 members, growing to 21 congregations and 1,685 members in 2010.

Mid-Atlantic Mennonite Fellowship does not sponsor or send delegates to the Mennonite Church (MC) General Assembly or to regional conference meetings. The fellowship's members enjoy fraternal relationship with the Mid-West Mennonite Fellowship, Southeastern Mennonite Conference, Cumberland Valley Mennonite Church, and various other independent churches of similar faith.
