Jacob Roth: deacon, minister and bishop in several Amish Mennonite Churches, was born to Nicholas and Catherine Roth in South Easthope Township, Perth County, Ontario on 22 December 1850. He died 23 May 1928. He married Hannah Eicher who died in February 1880 leaving four children. On 16 November 1880 he then married Mary Eicher. They were the parents of six sons and three daughters.

The Roth family moved from Ontario to Henry County, Iowa in 1858, and from there to Seward County, Nebraska, where Jacob was ordained a deacon in the Amish Mennonite Church. They next moved to Thurman, Colorado, where Jacob was ordained a minister, but in 1884 the family moved again, this time to Albany, Oregon, where he was instrumental in organizing the Albany Mennonite Church. There Jacob Roth was ordained a bishop in 1895.

In the fall of 1903 the much-travelled Jacob Roth family moved to Creston, Montana, where they held Sunday School and worship services in participants' homes until 1913 when the Roths participated in the organization and became charter members of the Mountain View Mennonite Church. But the family moved again, either late in 1916 or early in 1917, this time to Texas and then, after a few years, back to Oregon where Jacob Roth served as a minister in the Harrisburg Amish Mennonite Church.

Roth served many congregations over many years. His contribution was valued by all.
