Kreider (Kreiter, Greider) family
Kreider, a Mennonite family, migrated from the Palatinate to Pennsylvania in the early 18th century. Jacob Kreider (d. 1751) came to Lancaster County in 1716, settling south of the city of Lancaster. The family spread from Lancaster County to a few other communities such as Wadsworth, Ohio, Elkhart County, Indiana, Sterling, Illinois, and Palmyra, Missouri. Many Mennonite religious leaders have come from this family. Tobias Kreider (d. 1791) was a deacon at Mellinger's. Frank Kreider (b. 1868) was a preacher at East Petersburg. Jacob M. Greider (1835-1931) was a notable deacon at Salunga. Jacob's brother, John, served as a bishop from 1872 until 1891 in the Medway church, Montgomery County, Ohio. In Canada Daniel Kreider (1782-1860) served as a minister in York County, ON, later moving to Wadsworth Ohio. Carl Kreider served as dean of Goshen College in the middle of the 20th century. Around the same time Robert Kreider served at Bluffton College as dean. J. M. Kreider (1869-1946) ministered for a long time in northeastern Missouri, becoming bishop in 1912.
