The Lake Region Mennonite Church (Mennonite Church USA), a member of the North Central Mennonite Conference, was organized in May 1928, nine miles (15 km) from Detroit Lakes in Becker County, Minnesota. The church is located on State Highway 34 East. This is predominantly a dairy section and cheap land was a major attraction. There are 412 lakes within a radius of 25 miles of Detroit Lakes, and the land is quite hilly and covered with second growth timber except where farmers have cleared it and built homes.

The J. B. Stehman, J. D. Stoll, and J. C. Gingerich families moved to the Detroit Lakes community in the fall of 1926; the first family was from South Dakota, and the last two from Ulen, Minnesota. Later others came from Cass County, Missouri, South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, Montana, and Pennsylvania. Nineteen families from Nebraska represented the greatest influx from any one state.

The seven rural mission (Mennonite Church) stations in northern Minnesota sprang up following work started at White Earth in a schoolhouse as a branch Sunday school of the Lake Region Mennonite Church. The Lake Region meetinghouse was dedicated on 1 July 1936 and enlarged in 1948. In 1954 the membership was 87, with Elmer D. Hershberger as bishop and Menno Erb as preacher. J. C. Gingerich was minister 1926-1953.

The church burned to the ground on 30 April 1967 and a new church was dedicated on 8-9 June 1968.

The membership in 2010 was 20.
