Tjahrt family

Tjahrt (Tjart, Tjardt, Tiart, Tyart, Tgahrt, Tyahrt, Thjardh), a Mennonite family name in West Prussia, particularly in the congregations of Schweingrube, Culmsche Niederung, and Gruppe, after 1830 also found in South Russia, and from 1875 in America. Some of its members were preachers; the Dutch Naamlijst names for Prussia: Sievert Tjart until ca. 1750, and Steffen Tjart 1781-after 1802, both at Schweingrube, Pieter (Peter) Tjart in the Stühmsche Niederung before 1734-65. Wilhelm Tyart, of Dragass, was a preacher of the Montau-Gruppe congregation 1897-1926. Johann Tiahrt was ordained as preacher of the Schönsee congregation near Culm, and Peter Tgahrt was an elder in Deutsch-Kazun.
