Schulz, a Mennonite family name, has been located in records found in Danzig in 1674, and later in Tiegenhagen, Ladekopp, Königsberg and Montau-Gruppe. From these towns the name was transplanted to Mennonite settlements in Russia and North America. The name is likely derived from the office of Schulze, which means mayor. Some prominent members of the Schultz family in the Mennonite church have been: David Schulz of Altona, MB, elder of the Bergthal church in Manitoba; J. J. Schulz, manager of the Concordia Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba; Peter Schulz, a minister in Steinbach, Manitoba; Peter Schulz, Evangelical Mennonite Brethren (EMB) elder in Langham, Saskatchewan; Jacob S. Schultz, a dean at Bluffton College; George P. Schultz (1880-1957), a leader in the EMB Church and a pastor in Chicago; and his brother, David P. Schultz, a pastor in Marion, South Dakota. Arnold C. Schultz, a son of George P., was a professor of Old Testament at Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Chicago and at Bluffton College.
