Marijn (Martijne) Euwout, an Anabaptist martyr, burned at the stake on 10 December 1561 at Bruges, Belgium. In van Braght's Martyrs' Mirror this martyr is erroneously called Marijn Amare. She was born at Middelburg, Dutch province of Zeeland. Living at Bruges, she was arrested there with a large number of members on 10 November 1561 when a meeting of the Bruges Mennonite congregation was surprised outside the town. Marijn and her co-martyrs are celebrated in a hymn, "Genade ende vrede moet Godvresende zijn" (Mercy and peace should be to the God-fearing), found in Veelderhande Liedekens of 1569 and other Dutch hymnals and reproduced by Wackernagel. In this hymn she is called Martijne without a family name. The Bibliographie lists Marijn Amare as identical with Martijntgen Aelmeers, but this is an error.
