Jacob attended school at Weisshof and was baptized in 1854. In 1858 he visited his relatives in Russia. In 1860 he married and in 1864 he was ordained to the ministry by Johann Wiebe. Jacob Toews: an elder of the First Mennonite Church of Newton, Kansas; born at Wotzlaf, West Prussia, 26 June 1838, son of Jacob Toews (1806-1864). On 15 March 1860 Jacob married Maria Wiebe (1838-1924). Jacob and Maria had eight children (see additional information for further information regarding Jacob's family).
