Casper Schuester, a Hutterite martyr, who suffered death by beheading at Michelsburg in the Puster Valley with Martin of Vilgraten in 1538. His death is sung in the hymn (Ausbund, No. 33, where he is called Kaspar von Schöneck), "Merkt auf und nehmt zu Herzen, wie Gott will suchen heim." The Martyrs' Mirror names both martyrs twice: once as Vilgard and Caspar of Schoeneck who died in 1528 (Mart. Mir. D 19, E 429), and again as Martin of Vilgraten and Caspar Schumacher who died in 1538 (Mart. Mir. D 43 ff., E 449). The Hutterite chronicle calls them Casper Schuester and Marthin aus Vilgrädten. Under the name of Kaspar Schumacher the Lieder der Hutterischen Brüder (Scottdale, 1914: 86) gives a beautiful hymn, "Erzürn dich nicht, o frommer Christ!" (See Caspar of Schöneck, Mennonite Encyclopedia I, 522, which this article supplements.)
