Regier, Abraham (1774-1851)
Abraham Regier: minister and elder; born 2 February 1774 in Alt Münsterberg, Prussia, a son of Elder Cornelius Regier (1743-1794) and Margaretha von Bergen (1736-1794). Abraham married Elisabeth Claassen (1776, Tiegenhagen, Prussia - 3 June 1798, Heubuden, Prussia) on 28 March 1795. She was the daughter of Peter Claassen (1746-1827) and Gertrude (Harder) Claassen (1754-1784). Abraham and Elisabeth had one surviving child, Peter (b. 1798). Abraham married for the second time on 19 November 1798 to Catharina Goossen (16 May 1780, Neuteicherhinterfeld, Prussia - 18 February 1813, Prussia), daughter of Franz Goossen (1753-1817) and Catharina (Wiens) Goossen (ca. 1759 - ca. 1790). They had at least three children: Abraham, Cornelius and Maria. Abraham married for the third time on 7 September 1813 to Helena von Riesen (d. 1841). Abraham Regier died on 8 August 1851 in Heubuden, Prussia.
In 1794, upon his father's death, he took over the farm in Heubuden, Prussia. He was chosen as a preacher in the Heubuden congregation in 1800, and as elder on 6 January 1804, succeeding Peter Braun (1748-1803). The first decade of his eldership was a very trying period for the West Prussian congregations. Abraham Regier maintained conscientious church discipline. He was in close connection with the Gross-Werder congregation. In 1809 Abraham Regier ordained Jacob Kröker as elder of the Elbing-Ellerwald congregation and his brother Peter Regier (b. 1776) as elder of the Gross-Werder congregation. When his brother died, he conducted a vote for a replacement in the three "quarters" of the Grosswerder congregation (Ladekopp, Tiegenhagen, and Rosenort). The vote resulted in a tie; the lot, used to break the tie, fell on Abraham Wiebe (who later married a daughter of elder Peter Regier, b. 1776). In 1833 an election for elder occurred to replace Abraham Wiebe. This was conducted at Rosenort, and also resulted in a tie. The lot fell on his son Peter Regier (b. 1798), who, however, refused to assume the office of elder for the large district.
