Overbeek family
Overbeek, a Dutch Mennonite family, which (according to Blaupot ten Cate, Groningen I, 32) originally lived in Münsterland, Germany, from where its members in the 17th century moved to Twente, the southeastern district of the Dutch province of Overijssel, where they are still found. Other descendants have spread throughout the Netherlands. In Twente most of them lived in Hengelo. A few Overbeeks have been ministers. Hendrik Overbeek, a weaver, was a lay preacher of the Groningen Old Flemish congregation at Hengelo from 1727 until he retired in 1743. He died about 1762. Klaas Tigler Overbeek (d. 1847) of Dokkum was a minister of the Franeker Mennonite congregation 1811-1846, while his son Pieter Overbeek served the congregation of Terhorne 1841-1867. Cornelis Loosjes Overbeek, b. 1793 at Haarlem, d. 1841 at Zutphen, a son of Lucas Overbeek and Engeltje Loosjes, served at Zutphen 1819-1838. He then went into business. He left some property to the Algemene Doopsgezinde Sociëteit.
