Ontario Mennonite Evangel
Ontario Mennonite Evangel, a 6 x 9 in. monthly, a joint publication of the Ontario Mennonite and Ontario Amish Mennonite mission boards, published at Kitchener, Ont., began November 1956, edited by Merle Shantz. The Evangel was preceded by Church and Mission News, the organ of the Ontario Mennonite Mission Board 1940-56, and before that by the Mission News Bulletin 1936-39. Merle Shantz was editor from January 1945, preceded by Oscar Burkholder who served from the beginning.
Subsequent editors were Arnold Cressman (July 1959-July 1961), Wayne North (Aug. 1961-Sept. 1963), Vernon Leis (Oct. 1963-Oct. 1966), Dorothy Swartzentruber (Nov. 1966-March 1971), Clare Wideman and Mark Yantzi (April 1971-July 1971)
The journal's name was shortened to Evangel in May 1970. The Evangel ended in July 1971 when its supporting conferences agreed to support a new inter-Mennonite paper named Mennonite Reporter. This newsprint biweekly first appeared 3 August 1971.
