John F. Funk & Brother

John F. Funk & Brother, "Booksellers, Publishers and Bookbinders," 157 Main St., Elkhart, Indiana, the name of the Funk publishing. agency 1869-1874. It had previously (1864-1869) been known as John F. Funk, and was afterward (1875-1925) called the Mennonite Publishing Co., Inc. The brother was Abram K. Funk. It was this firm which published the German Martyrs' Mirror in 1870, the English Complete Works of Menno Simons in 1871, Dirk Philips' Enchiridion in German in 1872 , began the Mennonite Family Almanac and Familien-Kalender in 1870, and published many Mennonite hymnbooks, prayer books, and catechisms. A total of 27 titles published by the firm are listed in Bender's Two centuries of American Mennonite literature, 34-40. Funk's publications had wide circulation among the Mennonites in Canada.
