Gurdau (now Kurdějov, Břeclav District, Czech Republic), a village near Auspitz in Moravia, which in the 17th century belonged to the noble family of Lippa, who were friendly toward the Hutterian Brethren. The village church is said to have been built in its present form as a fortress in 1404. In the spring of 1541 the Anabaptists purchased a house through Hans Amon, a preacher, and Jakob Kircher, a deacon at Gurdau. There in 1547 three brethren were chosen to preach: Hans Greckenhofer, Wolf Sailer, and Peter Hag. The last two were also known as writers of hymns. Hag wrote a hymn about the brethren held in the Falkenstein, and Sailer a number of hymns.
