Grace Mennonite Church, Steinbach, MB

The Grace Mennonite Church in Steinbach was organized in 1961 with 43 charter members. The church was begun by families from Steinbach Mennonite, Bergthaler Mennonite, and the Evangelical Mennonite Brethren church who resisted the evangelical pressures which existed in other churches. Conflict over the use of the German language also was a motivating factor in establishing Grace Mennonite Church.

Rented facilities were used at first for a place of meeting. The first owned building was occupied in 1962 and a new building completed in 1989.

Through mission conferences in the 1970s, joint communion services in the 1980s and bridge-building and conference-minded leadership at Steinbach Mennonite and at Grace Mennonite, relationships could be restored over the years. Flexibility and bilingual fluency contributed to growth at Grace.

The language of worship was English from the beginning.
