General Villegas Mennonite Church (General Villegas, Provincia de Buenos Aires, Argentina)

General Villegas Mennonite Church (Mennonite Conference), also known as Villegas Mennonite Church, is located in the city of Villegas (population of 7,000 in 1959) on the Ferro Carril Oeste (main line of the Western Rail road; coordinates: 35° 2′ 0″ S, 63° 1′ 0″ W), seat of the County of Villegas, in the Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The evangelical work in this town was started by the Christian and Missionary Alliance, but because of scarcity of workers they had practically abandoned the town. Because it was near the town of América, where the Mennonites had been working, they exchanged their work established in Maza for this city in February 1941, and in the next month T. H. Brenneman and his family moved there to start the work anew. The congregation was organized in April 1942. The membership in 1957 was 16. The following pastors have served at Villegas: T. H. Brenneman 1941-45; Pedro Lanik, student pastor, 1945-46; Rogelio Perugorria, graduate of the Mennonite Bible Institute of Bragado, 1947-52; Alberto Ens 1953-54; Heriberto Palomeque 1954-55; Lawrence Brunk 1956-58; and Aladino Scorza 1959- .
