Cedar Crest Mennonite Church (Faunsdale, Alabama, USA)
The Cedar Crest Mennonite Church congregation near Faunsdale, Alabama, USA was established in 1976. The congregation started when families began to move to the west-central area of Alabama. The Clifford Penner family was the first to move to the area in 1975 from St. Marys, Ontario, Canada. The following two years saw a number of other families arrive from Florida, Kansas, and elsewhere.
The heavy clay soil in the area made soybeans the primary crop of farm families. Other the years agricultural circumstances demanded more diversification. By 2000 the leading occupation in the congregation was fish farming.
Worship services were first held in homes and community centers. In May 1977 an old school building in Faunsdale was rented and renovated. The Founsdale Christian School began in the building the following year and this building was used for over 20 years. In 1979 the congregation purchased five acres of land four miles north of Faunsdale and erected a church building. The first service in the new building was held 22 June 1980. About 2000 a school was built adjacent to the church.
In 2020 the congregation was part of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. The ministers were Kenneth Diller, Joseph Johnson, and Jody Nichols.
