Neufeld, Gerhard A. (1894-1974)
Gerhard A. Neufeld: minister; born 24 June 1894 in Mariental, Molotschna Colony, South Russia, the son of Abram and Katharina (Matties) Neufeld. He married Justina Käthler (14 July 1906, Grossweide, Molotschna Colony- 2 December 1985, Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada) on 28 February 1926 in Swalwell, Alberta. She was the daughter of Abraham G. Käthler (1878-1964) and Katarina (Wall) Käthler (1866-1966). Gerhard died 7 November 1974 in Chilliwack, BC.
Gerhard received his public and some high school education in Russia and was baptized on 28 May 1914. He immigrated to Canada, married Justina, and eventually settled near Wembley in the Peace River district of Alberta in 1927. The Wembley congregation of the Hoffnungsfeld Mennonite Church called him to the ministry and ordained him on 30 June 1929. He ministered in this area until 1939, then in the Vauxhall Mennonite Church until 1947 when he moved to British Columbia. Gerhard became the leading minister in the Oliver Mennonite Church and served from 1947 until 1967, when he retired to Chilliwack, BC.
