Bavink family
Bavink is a widely ramified Mennonite family, originally living in the district of Twente, Dutch province of Overijssel, later also found at Groningen and Kampen, and in East Friesland, Germany. Some of its members served the church as ministers, e.g., Hendrik Bavink, a merchant and lay preacher in the Waterlander congregation of Kampen in the early 18th century; Pieter Bavink, an untrained preacher of the United Waterlander and Flemish congregation at Groningen 1728-?; Coenraad Bavink, trained at Groningen University and by Pastor P. Beets of Zaandam, served at Groningen as an assistant pastor from 1794, was pastor at Emden 1795-1807 and at Nijmegen 1807-1810; Hendrik Bavink served at Norden 1781-1784, Veendam 1784-1786, and Noordbroek 1786-1789; Lodewijk Gerrit Bavink, of Blokzijl, educated at the Amsterdam seminary, was pastor at Wormer-Jisp 1834-1836 and Purmerend 1836-1873. Many Bavinks served as deacons, particularly at Almelo, Kampen, Emden, and Leer. A side branch of the Bavink family is the Bavink ten Cate family of Almelo.
