Pol(l)au, a village in the domains of Lord Leonhard von Liechtenstein situated on the slope of the Polau Mountains between Nikolsburg and Auspitz in Moravia, in which some Swiss Brethren had settled. Their preachers Hans Klopfer with four other brethren left the group on account of differences on several points of doctrine. Later on the congregaton joined the Hutterian Brethren. The Bruderhof had several vineyards and a fishpond in lease from the barons of Nikolsburg. When the domain passed into the hands of the fanatically Catholic Dietrichsteins, the Jesuit Cardaneus, who had been called in by the barons to force the Brethren to become Catholic, together with Christoph Erhard, the Nikolsburg dean and priest, caused the Brethren to be expelled from Polau in 1590.
