Fresno County is still considered the number one agricultural county in the United States. Almost 5,000 Mennonites lived in the area extending from Fresno south through Reedley and Dinuba in the decade of the 1950s. In 1940 the Mennonite Brethren organized a church in Fresno, in 1944 the Pacific Bible Institute, and in 1955 the M.B. Biblical Seminary. The Mennonite Community Church (Mennonite Church USA) was organized in Fresno in 1953.
