The queen, deeply moved by the loyal and simple manner of the donors, gave the woman the shawl she was wearing with the words, "In memory of this moment." In commemoration of this incident a monument of black granite in the form of a rounded obelisk was erected in the churchyard of the Schönsee Mennonite Church, with an account of the incident inscribed on it.
