Wall (de Wael, de Wale, Wahl, Waalde, Walde, van de Walle) is a Mennonite family name of Prussian background. The name appeared in Danzig in 1586 and also in Tiegenhagen, Rosenort, Ladekopp, and Heubuden, and was transplanted to Russia and North America. It is likely that the name is of Dutch origin. In Holland the name usually appears as de Wale. Uco Walles was a Dutch Mennonite leader. A. Wall was a physician in Halbstadt, Molotschna. Aaron Wall of Mountain Lake, Minnesota was one of the founders of the Evangelical Mennonite Brethren Church. Heinrich Wall taught at the Canadian Mennonite Bible College. His brother Cornelius Wall taught at Mountain Lake, Hesston, Winnipeg, and Basel. In 1958 there were 17 ministers bearing the name Wall, with all but one serving in the United States, and most serving in California; of these 17 ministers, 5 were Evangelical Mennonite Brethren, 10 Mennonite Brethren, and 2 General Conference Mennonite Church.
