Maillaert de Grave, of Leisele, near Veurne in Flanders, [[Belgium|Belgium]], was a member of the Mennonite congregation in his native village, together with his wife Valentyne Ryckele. [[Paulus van Meenen (16th century)|Paulus van Meenen]] was for a time the elder of this congregation. Later Maillaert, who was a cabinetmaker, moved to [[Bruges (West-Vlaanderen, Belgium)|Bruges]] and participated in the life of the congregation there; meetings were held in his home. In February 1568 he, his wife, and their three children were arrested.
