Hans Klöpfer of Feuerbach near Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, was baptized about 1540 by Martin Fesser at Esslingen, and then went to Moravia. Here he was a preacher of the Swiss Brethren at Polaw on Magdeberg (Meyberg) until 1543. At a meeting at Tasswitz he solemnly left them, giving four defects as the reason: (1) community of goods was not practiced; (2) they paid taxes which were used for war and bloodshed; (3) the preachers were not convinced of their authorization; (4) they punished adultery, thievery, and the like among themselves instead of through the government, and thus kept impure spirits and unclean hearts in their midst. With four companions he joined the Hutterian Brethren in Schäckowitz and was sent to Württemberg in 1543 by Leonhard Sailer and Peter Riedemann, to warn Hans Gentner and Michael Kramer of false doctrine and summon them home. About 1550 he became a Hutterite preacher and died in 1562 at Nikolsburg, where he was greatly respected.
