Abraham Nickel, a Mennonite minister of [[Jamerau (Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland)|Jamerau]] in (former) [[West Prussia|West Prussia]], [[Germany|Germany]], was born 4 June 1743, and died 23 February 1820. He was a preacher in the [[Waterlanders|Waterlander]] ([[Frisian Mennonites|Frisian]]) congregation at [[Schönsee (Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland)|Schönsee]] in the [[Culm (Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland)|Culm]] Lowlands (Niederung) from 1766, and elder from 1779. He is known for his audience with the Prussian king, [[Friedrich Wilhelm III, King of Prussia (1770-1840)|Fredrick William III]], and his consort in [[Graudenz (Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland)|Graudenz]] in 1806, when he represented the Mennonites in presenting a contribution of 30,000 Talers, while his wife presented to the queen a basket of fresh butter. The queen, deeply moved by the loyal and simple manner of the donors, gave the woman the shawl she was wearing with the words, "In memory of this moment."
