Jan van Ackeren (Akeren, Akkeren), an [[Anabaptism|Anabaptist]] martyr, born at [[Kortrijk (West-Vlaanderen, Belgium)|Kortrijk]] (Courtrai) in [[Flanders (Belgium)|Flanders]], a serge weaver, was executed on 2 April 1569 (not 1573, as [[Braght, Tieleman Jansz van (1625-1664)|van Braght]] states), at [[Antwerp (Belgium)|Antwerp]], [[Belgium|Belgium]], together with [[Jan de Timmerman (1543?-1569)|Jan de Timmerman]] and [[Baltasar de Rosieres (d. 1569)|Balthasar de Rosieres]]. Jan, whose wife and two daughters were still living at Kortrijk, had moved to Antwerp only two weeks before he was arrested. He was tortured on 9 March, and refusing to recant was sentenced to death, which he underwent with cheerfulness.
