Jakob Amssler was a delegate of the Hutterian Brethren in Sobotište (then in Hungary), on 8 or 18 October 1655, who with Christoph Baumhauer received from Elector Palatine Karl Ludwig permission to colonize the Hutterian Brethren in Mannheim beside the "Rhine gate." Amssler, a smith by trade, had come from Switzerland, and on 18 March 1648 was chosen to serve as preacher in the church at Sobotište.
