Klein Montau (also known as Klein Muntow, Małe Mątowy, Małe Mątwy, Muntowki, Folwark Montowski; now known as Mątowy Małe; coordinates: 53.997780, 18.867559 [53° 59′ 52″ N, 18° 52′ 3″ E]; population in 1905, 499; in 2012, 200), is located approximately 4 kilometres (2 miles) south-west of Miłoradz (Mielenz), 12 km. (7 mi.) west of Malbork (Marienburg), and 44 km. (27 mi.) south of the regional capital Gdańsk (Danzig).

Klein Montau was first mentioned in historical documents in 1254 and received a charter in 1321. In about 1565 the estates of the Teutonic Knights, which had been acquired by the Polish crown, including Klein Montau, were leased to Mennonites. Until 1772 the village was part of the Kingdom of Poland. The First Partition of Poland resulted in the creation of a new province in 1773, called West Prussia. Klein Montau was situated in the district (Kreis) of Marienburg until the establishment of the Free City of Danzig in 1920. The village came under the control of Nazi Germany during World War II until February 1945, when it was occupied by Soviet forces and returned to Poland. In 2012 Klein Montau (now Mątowy Małe) was a village in the administrative district of Gmina Miłoradz, within Malbork County, Pomeranian Voivodeship.

In 1776 there were four Mennonite families (Claasen, Hag [2], and Penner) living in the village with a total of 21 individuals. In 1820, Klein Montau had 547 residents, including 24 Mennonites. In the 1935 list of Heubuden Mennonite Church members, only four families resided in Klein Montau.
