Verdragh der Broeders tot Embden
Verdragh der Broeders tot Embden (Agreement of the Brethren at Emden) is the agreement made on 4 April 1579 at Emden in East Friesland, Germany, by Hans de Ries and seven Waterlander leaders, representatives of the Island (i.e., De Rijp), Purmeend, Amsterdam, and Rotterdam on the one hand and the congregation of Emden on the other. This agreement was very important in the development of the Waterlander branch. Though the views of the Emden brethren on the Incarnation differed somewhat from the Waterlander views, the Emden congregation wholeheartedly joined in the union. The original copy of the "Verdragh," signed by the representatives, is found in the Amsterdam Mennonite Archives. It was published by Blaupot ten Cate in Groningen, 264-70.
