Talcum Mennonite Church (Talcum, Kentucky, USA)
The Clinton Frame Mennonite Church near Goshen, Indiana, established a mission station near Talcum, Kentucky in 1952. Samuel and Dorothy Hostetler served as the initial superintendents, holding the first Sunday school and worship service in the Talcum schoolhouse on 6 July 1952. Talcum was a coal mining area.
The Clinton Frame congregation built a small meetinghouse in the summer of 1953; it was dedicated on 6 December 1953. Because of its connection to Clinton Frame, the Talcum Mennonite Church became part of the Indiana-Michigan Mennonite Conference of the Mennonite Church (MC). In 1962, the Indiana-Michigan Mennonite Mission Board took over supervision of the Talcum mission until 1982, when the congregation became financially independent.
In 1964, a Voluntary Service unit based at the Appalachian Regional Hospital at Hazard, Kentucky, about 20 miles south of Talcum, helped to sustain small Mennonite congregations like Talcum.
In 1997, the congregation added a kitchen and fellowship hall.
In December 2019, the Talcum Mennonite Church withdrew from the Indiana-Michigan Mennonite Conference of Mennonite Church USA due to doctrinal differences. It became affiliated with the Rosedale Network of Churches.
