Stauffer, Otto (1904-1942)
Otto Stauffer, born 23 August 1904 at Obersülzen, Palatinate, Germany, was sent out as a missionary of the Dutch Mennonite Mission Association in 1934; his field was at Kudus on the Indonesian island of Java. Here he was a successful missionary until 1940, when he was interned in the course of the war. On 18 January 1942, the ship on which Stauffer and his brother-in-law and fellow missionary Hermann Schmitt were transported was torpedoed and both Schmitt and Stauffer found their graves in the waters of the Indian Ocean. Otto Stauffer was married to Martha Klaassen, a daughter of missionary Johann Klaassen.
