In July 1997 Mark and Karen Thompson helped to establish a new Mennonite Brethren congregation in Capitola, California, shortly after Grace Community Church of Capitola had disbanded. The new group used the former congregation's facilities, and a group of 15 people from the former congregation formed a weekly home group. Public services began on 7 July 1998.

Mark Thompson served as pastor of the church until 2004, and was followed by interim pastor Robert Igarta. In 2005 Daniel Clubb became pastor.
