San Marcos Mennonite Church (Guaimaca, Honduras)
San Marcos Mennonite Church is located in Guaimaca, Honduras. The church had its roots in a New Order Amish community that had relocated from the Aylmer Old Order Amish community in 1969. After providing assistance to an indigenous Honduran community in San Marcos after a fire, the New Order Amish began to provide Bible study and church services in San Marcos.
In May 1975 Richard Hochstetler, originally from an Amish community in northern Indiana, moved to San Marcos and began the church. The church also began to operate a school. Monroe Hochstetler provided bishop oversight until Richard Hochstetler was ordained bishop in 1981. Pablino Funas was ordained as minister in 1982, and Cristobal Armijo as minister in 1984. Regelio Cruz was ordained as deacon in 1995.
In 2018 the church had 44 members and was a member of the Mennonite Christian Fellowship. The ministerial team included Bishop Ervin Schlabach, Minister Jonathan Yoder, and Deacon Jesse Meyers.
