Prayer Guide
Prayer Guide, officially the Daily Prayer Guide for Missions, Relief, and Home Activities of the Mennonite Church, is issued by the Women's Missionary and Service Auxiliary of the Mennonite Board of Missions and Charities, Elkhart, Indiana. The Booklet of Prayer for Missions of the Mennonite Church was first issued by the Mennonite Women's Missionary Society for 1925. In 1936 "Handbook of Information" was added to the title. By 1940 the title had become Booklet of Prayer and Handbook, of Information for Missions and Institutions of the Mennonite Church. Six years later it became the Daily Prayer Calendar for Home and Foreign Work, of the Mennonite Church. Its title and format as of 1958 were established in 1951. It is a 5 ¼ x 7 ½ inch 136-page booklet. A Bible reading, meditation, and prayer suggestions, followed by birthdays of missionaries and their children, are given for each day. The last 17 pages list officers of the women's missionary organizations and church boards, all missionaries serving under the Mennonite Church, and a missionary book list. In 1958-59 Alice Ruth (Kauffman) Gingerich was editor. Since the daily Bible readings follow the International S.S. Lessons, the Guide is used widely in Mennonite family worship.
