Mennonitischer Verein Deutsche Muttersprache (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada)
The Mennonitischer Verein Deutsche Muttersprache (Mennonite Association for the German Mother Language) was founded in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1952 to aid Mennonite families of German background in preserving their German language and culture by encouraging the use of High German in their homes and churches, by organizing German classes, by offering a German correspondence course, encouraging the establishment of German libraries, etc. The officers of the organization were elected at the annual meeting usually held in the fall. Minimum membership dues were $1.00. Some of the leading ministers and educators were actively participating in the cause. In 1955 it had a membership of 1,500.
