Louwys de Wever (d. 1558)
Louwys de Wever (official name Loys Luycx) of Laerne near Ghent, Flanders, was beheaded on 22 April 1558, at Antwerp, Belgium. He was threatened with burning at the stake, but after recanting he was beheaded. The martyr books, not knowing this fact, have listed him among the martyrs. Hence his name is found in a hymn "Aenhoort Godt, hemelsche Vader" (Hear, O God, heavenly Father), No. 16 of the Lietboecxken van den Offer des Heeren. Van Braght states that Louwys was beheaded at Antwerp in 1558 (without exact date) because of his true confession and his steadfastness.
