Iowa Experiment
Iowa Experiment of the Stauffer Mennonite Church in Osceola County (1887-1915). Stauffer Mennonites from Ontario and from Lancaster and Snyder counties, Pennsylvania, established a settlement in the frontier country of northwestern Iowa where they could be isolated from the influence of Mennonite churches from which they had separated. Their settlement became extinct because of differences of opinion among the members concerning the introduction of modern conveniences and because of the great economic success of their bishop which led him into compromises disapproved by his members.
