Immanuel Community Church (Flushing, New York, USA)
Immanuel Community Church, Flushing, New York, USA, began in 1991 from a merger of The Redeemer Community Church of Flushing and the Elim Tabernacle Church in Bayside, New York. Redeemer had been a Mennonite congregation, while Elim Tabernacle Church was a nondenominational charismatic church that had recently called John I. Smucker as its pastor. The two congregations had begun to worship together in January 1991 and formally merged in March 1991.
Initially, the new church was based in Bayside, New York. In 1993 the church moved its location to Flushing.
Early in its formation, the congregation made extensive use of cell groups to help members focus on discipleship and outreach opportunities.
In October 2016 Immanuel Community Church withdrew from the Atlantic Coast Conference and Mennonite Church USA. It became a member of the Lancaster Mennonite Conference which was in the process of itself withdrawing from Mennonite Church USA.
