Hoofman family
Hoofman was a Dutch Mennonite family, formerly found at Haarlem, where they were businessmen and members of the Mennonite Church, both Flemish and Waterlanders. Many of them served as deacons or were trustees of the Mennonite orphanages and old people's homes (Hofjes). Cornelis Hoofman (born 1672 at Haarlem) studied law at the University of Leiden and founded a trading post and a banking house at Königsberg, East Prussia. He also wrote some Dutch plays. His sister Elisabeth Hoofman (born 1664 at Haarlem), married to Pieter Koolart, published a number of poems in the Dutch language. She died at Kassel, Germany, in 1734, where her husband had established a bank.
