Hendrik van Etten, born at Breda, Dutch province of North Brabant, Anabaptist martyr, was seized with his friend Abraham Picolet by soldiers of Duke Alba, and although they had not yet been baptized, they were burned at the stake at Antwerp in 1569 together with Maeyken van der Goes after a frank confession of their faith. In prison van Etten wrote several letters which have been lost, in which as an ex-soldier he exhorted his friends to persevere in the battle assigned to them.
