Häring, Christina (16th century)
Christina Häring(in), an Anabaptist martyr, a member of a "zealous" Anabaptist family, for her brothers Christian and Thomas had a good reputation in the Moravian brotherhoods. Of Christina the Geschichts-Bücher state that she was seized and put in chains at Kitzbühel. She remained steadfast. Because she was pregnant she was permitted to go home until her confinement. Though she could have escaped during this period, she remained. When she was returned to Kitzbühel she still persisted in her faith, and was therefore beheaded, "Which is unusual for a woman," as the chronicles remarks. Her corpse was burned. Her brothers escaped to Moravia. Christian, who is mentioned in the chronicles in connection with the martyrdom of Thomas Herrmann, was made deacon in 1552 (not 1550) and Thomas in 1568 (not 1567); the latter was also a preacher after 1572, and died in 1593 at Altenmarkt near Lundenburg, after he had been a "brother" for 53 years.
