The Grace Mennonite Church in Brandon, Manitoba traces its beginning to 1954 when a cluster of five families living in Brandon explored the possibility of Local German services with Ältester G.G. Neufeld of the Whitewater Gemeinde. Beginning in November 1954 ministers from the Mennonite congregations at Rivers, Oak Lake and Whitewater alternated to meet bimonthly with approximately 14 families. They had assistance from the Conference of Mennonites in Manitoba and met in rented facilities. The group was known as Brandon Mennonite Mission until 1961.

In 1957 the Conference of Mennonites in Canada sent Mary Ann and Henry Isaac to give leadership to this group. By 1959 they had completed their own meeting house and became an independent congregation, called Grace Mennonite Church. There were 26 charter members in 1959. In 1971 an addition to the meeting house was completed, and another expansion happened 1983.

The language of worship transitioned from German to English in the late 1950s. Over the years the congregation served the various students who came to study at Brandon University.

Theological differences in the congregation caused a division in 1993.
