The Cedar Street Mennonite Church in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, began as an outreach of the Marion Mennonite Church. Marion's pastor, Norman Martin, led efforts to distribute The Way in Chambersburg in June 1948, as well as holding services in the local county jail. A Summer Bible School followed in 1949. Finally, in the spring of 1953, Marion began construction of a 40' x 60' church basement on Cedar Street near a government housing project. The church was not completed until 1958. Marion Mennonite Church held the first Sunday school in the basement church on 21 June 1953. Some Marion families made Cedar Street their home congregation. Marion pastors led services until Cedar Street Mennonite Church was recognized as an independent congregation of the Franklin Mennonite Conference of the Mennonite Church (MC) in 1963. Previously, its membership was included with the Marion Mennonite Church.

In 2016, the Franklin Mennonite Conference withdrew from Mennonite Church USA. In 2017, it became the Franklin District of the Lancaster Mennonite Conference.
