Carrot River Church of God in Christ, Mennonite (Carrot River, Saskatchewan, Canada)
The Carrot River Church of God in Christ, Mennonite congregation near Carrot River, Saskatchewan, Canada had its roots in families from Edberg, Alberta moving to the area with the intention of starting a new congregation. Three families moved to Carrot River in spring 1981. The congregation organized in summer 1981 and initially met for worship in homes.
The congregation soon met in the former Smoky Burn School; they also used it for a school. In 1983 the Roblin congregation offered Carrot River its old building, which was placed over a new basement. The Carrot River congregation began using the facility in November 1983.
The Outpatient House in Carrot River was rented and then purchased by the denomination's Mission Board in the early 1980s to serve as a residence for First Nations people coming south for medical treatment. Martin Barkman came as the administrator of the home and pastor for the congregation from 1982-1984. The Outpatient House closed in 1990 as travel options improved. However, the home had provided significant employment for young women in the congregation.
In 2020 the congregation was part of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. The minister was Leland Penner.
