A Mennonite family name in West Prussia, Bergmann appeared in the rural Flemish congregations and, since 1685, also in Danzig. In 1776 ten families of this name were counted in West Prussia (without Danzig), and in 1935, 83 persons. Members of this family also migrated to Russia and North America.
