Lenart (van Aken) Arents, was one of the group of 13 Mennonite and Quaker families of Krefeld, who formed the first permanent German settlement in America, landing on 6 October 1683. He was a descendant of martyr Lenard Arets. The family was Mennonite until the coming of the Quakers to Krefeld in 1671; he was one of those who made the transfer to the latter group. His wife was a sister of Wilhelm Strepers, who also immigrated to America on the Concord, and Jan Strepers, who had bought of William Penn 5,000 acres in Pennsylvania on 10 March 1683. Arents also secured 1,000 acres from Penn on 11 June 1683; thus he was one of the first six Krefeld purchasers of land in America. He died 3 December 1714, leaving three daughters.
