Americus Mennonite Fellowship (Americus, Georgia, USA)
The Americus Mennonite Fellowship, Americus, Georgia, USA, began in 1987 out of a local Voluntary Service (VS) unit of the Eastern Mennonite Board of Missions. The VS unit engaged with the Southeast Mennonite Conference about starting a "radical" church in Georgia. Lewis and Mary Overholt came as church planters in 1987. The Fellowship was formally founded in 1989.
The group initially met in the Overholt home but then began to meet in a Seventh-Day Adventist church. By the end of the 1990s, it had its own church building in Americus.
Most participants were not from Americus. The outreach of the congregation included involvement in Habitat For Humanity, the Fuller Center for Housing, Koinonia Farm, and the Alterna Community led by Anton Flores and other places in which members served. In the late 2010s, the congregation connected with the local Hispanic community and began a tutoring program for children.
When the Southeast Conference voted to leave Mennonite Church USA in 2018, Americus changed its affiliation to the Central District Conference in order to maintain its MC USA connection.
In 2023 the congregation was part of the Central District Conference.
