Adriaen Olieu (d. ca. 1567-1569)

Adriaen Olieu (also called A. Ol, or A. du Rieu), an Anabaptist martyr, was put to death in Armentieres, France. He came from Halewijn (Halluin) in Flanders and was "of a fitting old age." According to theMartyrs' Mirror he was tortured without result and in 1567 burned at the stake. Van Braght also lists the martyr Adriaen Ol, who was likewise executed in Armentieres in about 1569. These two names probably refer to the same martyr, the year of whose death has not yet been fully established. Adriaen was a well-known preacher (leeraar) in Flanders, for many years a minister in the Armentieres congregation. The martyr Jacob de Rore addressed his nineteenth letter to him. There is some question as to whether this martyr was actually an Anabaptist.
