Reynier Wybrands Wybma, born 1573 and died 1645 at Amsterdam, was from about 1605 a preacher and from 1612 an elder of the Waterlander congregation of Amsterdam, where he lived from 1605. He was ordained to the eldership by Elder Lubbert Gerritsz on his deathbed, 17 January 1612. At first Reynier Wybrands, as he is mostly called, was a glazier, later he had a business. He was engaged in many problems and quarrels of his age: in 1607-1608 and again in 1618 he tried to settle the difficulties concerning Nittert Obbes  in his Amsterdam home church, in 1634 he mediated in a conflict at Rotterdam concerning Elder Eduard Nabels. His Memoriael, a book in which he wrote all that happened in his Amsterdam congregation, is found in the Amsterdam Archives. During his eldership the union of an Anabaptist-Brownist group of English refugees at Amsterdam (see Smyth, John) and his Waterlander congregation came about in 1615. In the same year he carried on a correspondence with some Waterlander (also called Frisian) churches in Prussia.

Apart from an undated manuscript concerning exclusion from the Lord's table, now found in the Amsterdam Archives, Reynier Wybrands wrote Catechesis, Dat is, onderwijsinghe in de Christelijcke Religie (Amsterdam, 1640; reprinted 1640 and 1672 at Amsterdam). In 1626 he and his co-ministers P. A. Hesseling and Cornelis Claesz Anslo published Apologia oft Verantwoordinghe against Nittert Obbes.
